Governance and Policy Success Story:

Enterprise AI Readiness Assessment

The Challenge

With the rapid acceleration of generative AI, the organization’s leadership needed to define their stance on AI usage. Employees were eager to use AI on their own devices, and incumbent software providers were embedding generative AI into their SaaS platforms, pushing AI adoption within the organization.

The Objective

To ensure clear decisions were made and communicated regarding opportunities to pursue, and the acceptable risks, associated with generative AI usage.

Approach

ProceedAI's maturity model was employed to evaluate the organization’s AI readiness and provide recommendations for necessary improvements especially within these areas:

Ethical AI Use:

Establishing guidelines to ensure AI solutions are used ethically, respecting privacy and avoiding bias.

Data Governance

Implementing strict controls over data quality, access, and usage.

Regulatory Compliance

Ensuring all AI applications comply with industry-specific regulations and international data protection laws.

Stakeholder Transparency

Creating mechanisms for stakeholder engagement and transparency in AI decision-making processes.

Solution

An interview and artifact-based assessment was conducted using the following four key pillars:

-Pillar 1: Strategy and Investment

-Pillar 2: Infrastructure and Data

-Pillar 3: Talent and Expertise

-Pillar 4: Governance and Ethics

The assessment revealed that the organization was at Maturity Level 1 across the board: the Nascent Level. At this initial stage, organizations have a limited understanding and application of AI technologies, with AI initiatives often being ad hoc and experimental. The subsequent maturity stages are Level 2: Emerging, Level 3: Developing, Level 4: Advanced, and Level 5: Transformative.

Results

ProceedAI provided actionable recommendations, templates, and advice to help the organization improve in areas that mattered most, at an appropriate pace. This included finalizing and publishing their generative AI policy both internally and externally, enhancing data governance and management processes, and defining an initial generative AI risk management framework.

Through ProceedAI's guidance, the organization is now on a path to higher AI maturity, enabling them to leverage AI technologies more strategically and effectively.
